GEMS OF THE RENAISSANCE
- Daily except on Monday and first Sunday of the month from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm
- Price: 139,00€ per person
- Duration: 4 hours
We start our walk with an unforgettable look around the gallery of the Academy. Any visitor in Florence will want to see the statue of David, symbol of the Florentine Renaissance. We broaden our study of Michelangelo's masterpieces and follow his career in Florence, under the Medici family, and his time in Rome, where he endured a difficult relationship with Pope Julius II, looking at his unfinished works, the”Prisoners” and the touching “Pietà”. we focus on Michelangelo’s technique.
We carry on our walk to admire the polychrome cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as the Duomo. The guided tour then continues with the Baptistery, one of the city's most ancient religious buildings; the beauty of its doors moved Michelangelo to call them “the Gates of Paradise”!
We will walk you through the beauty of the city, moving along the oldest medieval streets of the city centre, lined up with towers. We reach Piazza Signoria, the political heart of the city, with its ancient buildings and famous statues. The square hasn’t changed, since the Medici period!
The Uffizi, commissioned by Cosimo I of the Medici, was originally an office building for Florentine Magistrates. As you walk in, immersed in one of the greatest art collections in the world, the history and evolution of Florentine art will come alive through the words of your expert guide.
We focus on the Renaissance period (specifically on the artists mentioned below) starting with the painting of the Virgin by Filippo Lippi, a friar-painter and Botticelli’s master; the sinuous lines and symbolism of “The Birth of Venus” and “Spring”, major masterpieces by Botticelli; Leonardo da Vinci shading technique, characterised by subtle transitions between colour areas; the force of Michelangelo’s “Tondo Doni”, the only documented painting left by the great master, still in its original frame.
Your guide will use the gallery as a text, to narrate the history and changes of art through the paintings you see, making you appreciate the richness of this important museum.
The goal of our visit is not to see “everything”, but instead, to absorb the highlights of the Uffizi Gallery, learn about techniques, contextualize these masterpieces in the history of art.
At the end of your guided visit you can relax and enjoy the view of Florence from the panoramic terrace of the cafeteria or browse around the Gallery on your own.
